Ingredients

For 4 servings

  • 3 ripe avocados
  • Juice of 1 to 2 limes
  • 1/2 small white onion, very finely chopped
  • 1 jalapeño or serrano chili, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1 ripe tomato, seeded and diced
  • Small bunch of fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp salt, or to taste
  • 1 bag (about 300 g) tortilla chips, to serve

Step by step

  1. Step 1: Cut the avocados in half, remove the pits and scoop the flesh into a bowl.

  2. Step 2: Add the juice of 1 lime and the salt, then mash with a fork or potato masher. Leave it a little chunky for the best texture.

  3. Step 3: Stir in the onion, chili, tomato and most of the cilantro.

  4. Step 4: Taste and add more lime juice or salt until the flavor is bright and lively.

  5. Step 5: Spoon into a serving bowl, scatter the rest of the cilantro on top and serve right away with tortilla chips.

  6. Step 6: To keep leftovers green, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface and refrigerate for up to 1 day.
