Ingredients
For 4 servings
- 600 g beef ribeye or sirloin, very thinly sliced
- 1/2 Asian pear or 1 small apple, grated
- 5 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp honey
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
- 2 tbsp toasted sesame oil
- 3 spring onions, sliced
- 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- Steamed rice and lettuce leaves, to serve
Step by step
Step 1: To slice the beef thinly, freeze it for 30 minutes first, then cut it against the grain into slices about 3 mm thick.
Step 2: In a large bowl, mix the grated pear, soy sauce, sugar, honey, garlic, ginger and sesame oil.
Step 3: Add the beef, the sliced onion and most of the spring onions. Mix well with your hands, cover and marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes, or up to 8 hours.
Step 4: Heat the vegetable oil in a large frying pan or grill pan over high heat.
Step 5: Cook the beef in batches, spread out in a single layer, for 2 to 3 minutes until browned and slightly caramelized at the edges.
Step 6: Sprinkle with sesame seeds and the remaining spring onions, and serve with steamed rice and lettuce leaves for wrapping.
